        About DIG Poly Drip Tubing

DIG .700 OD poly drip tubing is generally is used as the main lateral or the supply line to deliver water to the plant area in a drip irrigation system installation in commercial, residential or agricultural applications. The poly drip tubing may be installed above the ground and covered with mulch to blend with the landscape, or below grade.

DIG .700 OD poly drip tubing is available in 100', 200’, 500’ and 1000' and it is manufactured with Dow 7510 low density polyethylene resin and includes 2%+ Carbon Black for extra resistance to ultraviolet rays. DIG’s premium poly drip tubing dimension is .600 ID x .700 OD, a universally accepted size used in drip irrigation installations. The poly drip irrigation tubing size can vary by manufacturer, with some having larger or smaller ID and OD, and each size may display different flow characteristics.

        Poly Drip Tubing Installation Notes:

        1. Before you start, we highly recommend that you make a sketch of the garden or site with a detailed layout, mapping out the location of the poly drip tubing and micro tubing, the length of the drip tubing and the watering devices selected. This will make it easier to maintain the system at each new season or when expanding.
        2. Before unrolling the poly drip tubing from the inside or outside, depending on the type of coil used, leave it out in direct sunlight to warm it up. This will make it easier to work with.
        3. If the poly drip tubing is used in a below grade installation, we suggest digging a six to eight inch deep trench, to keep the poly drip tubing at a safe distance from cultivation practices. Leave the end of the poly drip tubing above the surface for periodic flushing.
        4. Last, we recommend not to exceed a total flow rate of 220 gallons per hour (3.6 GPM) on a single layout of drip irrigation tubing lateral.

        Poly Drip Tubing Installation Steps:

        1. Using the poly drip tubing as a main lateral or as a sub lateral: Lay out the poly drip tubing per the sketch made. Secure the poly drip tubing to the ground using one of DIG’s stakes (pack of 1, model R60, pack of 10 R60-10, pack of 10, R62B) in key areas and add more stakes as you unroll the poly drip tubing. Add stakes every 6' - 10' and at the end of each section, or as needed. Extend additional drip irrigation tubing to the plant area. Several sections of poly drip tubing can be laid out through the site, leaving all ends open for flushing. An extra 1% of poly drip tubing length should be added to each lateral to compensate for contraction at low temperatures.
        2. Throughout the installation and per your sketch layout, add the black insert compression fittings if needed, such as tees (model C35) and elbows (model C36), leaving the end of the tubing open. To install the compression drip fittings, cut the tubing with a hand pruner, being careful to keep dirt from entering the line. Hold the drip fitting in one hand and the poly drip tubing in the other and force the drip tubing into the compression drip fitting by wiggling it from side to side.
        3. When completing the drip tubing layout task and before installing the drip emitters or micro sprinklers, turn the water on to flush the drip tubing. After flushing the line, close all the outlets of the drip tubing using the hose end cap (model Q58) or figure eight hose end (model F68B).
        4. The drip emitters are installed along the poly drip tubing at varying or at specific intervals. The distribution uniformity of water flow from the drip emitters along the poly drip tubing line will depend on the incoming pressure, number of drip emitters used per lateral, and the total length of the drip tubing used. It is very important to ensure high uniformity of water along the poly drip tubing by not exceeding our total flow recommendations (see Product Specifications).

                                  • Battery

This hose end timer requires one 9-volt battery (alkaline battery recommended).
                                    1. To install the battery, use firm pressure to lift the battery compartment cover in the back of the unit.
                                    2. Insert a new 9-volt battery and lock down the battery in place. The polarity is marked for direction.
                                    3. Replace battery compartment cover in its proper place, ensuring a triangle is formed on the underside of the timer.
Review the instruction manual included with the unit for details.

                                    Installation into a faucet

                                    1. If installation is into a faucet, connect the swivel female hose thread to the faucet using the swivel adapter.
                                    2. OPTIONAL: If the timer is installed with a drip irrigation system, make sure to add a 25 or 30 PSI pressure regulator after the timer to lower the pressure to the drip system, then install a 150 or higher mesh screen filter to protect the drip system, following with a swivel adapter to the drip tubing.
                                    3. After the timer has been programmed, turn the faucet on and test the timer by pressing the On button once to see the timer open and press the Off button to see it close. No other steps are needed.

About EVO100 Waterproof Solar Powered Digital Hose End Timer

The EVO 100 is a single zone hose end electronic irrigation timer that is easy to install and program. The patented energy management system derives power only from ambient light which is collected by a small built in photovoltaic module. This energy is then stored in long-life super capacitors. There are no batteries to install or replace, and no external power supply is required. The timer has a quick-release swivel female hose thread inlet fitting and a male hose thread outlet.

Before you start programming, the timer will need to be charged for one to two hours in sunlight to get up to full power. Once it’s full though, as long as it gets around 10 minutes of ambient light per day, it will stay at full charge.

The EVO 100 is a light-powered maintenance-free timer with no batteries to replace or charge.

                                                  Installation

                                                  1. Install the timer to the faucet by turning the female inlet fitting clockwise until hand tight. The female inlet has a screen washer so, do not use any wrench to tight the unit . For BSP thread models wrap TEFLON tape on each of the male thread fittings used.
                                                  2. Turn the water supply on. The timer will open momentarily and then will shut off. Note: If it does not, push the manual operation button twice to ensure that the timer is closed.
                                                  3. If the timer is installed with a drip irrigation system, make sure to install a 150 mesh or higher screen filter to protect the drip system, then add a 15, 25, or 30 PSI (1, 1.75, or 2.1 bar) pressure regulator, followed with a swivel adapter to the drip tubing.
                                                  4. Test the timer using the manual operation button located below the display. Press the button to open and start water flow. If connected to a sprinkler or drip system, check that the system is working to your satisfaction and that there are no leaks. Press the button again to turn off the unit.
                                                  5. Program the timer.
Review the instruction manual included with the unit for details.

If a rain sensor or other closed contact sensor is used, cut the yellow wires and add the sensor per the manual, sensor instructions, making sure to use a waterproof wire connection.

About the Raised Bed Drip Kit

DIG Raised Bed Drip Kit is specially designed to water planter boxes or vegetable gardens planted in rows. The kit contains 50’ of 1/4” dripline with .52 GPH @ 15 PSI or .65 GPH @ 25 PSI drip emitters every 9”, providing up to five lines, with each line up to 10' long (up to 150 sq. ft). The kit can be expanded to cover more than 700 sq. ft. using up to five kits together or expanding the kit using additional 1/2” drip tubing as the supply line, along with additional 1/4” drip line. The kit includes a 3/4" backflow preventer, 3/4" 25 PSI pressure regulator, 3/4" swivel adapter, 50' of our premium 1/2" drip tubing with .600 ID x .700 OD and all the necessary parts to complete the installation.

Start the kit from a faucet or garden hose

                                                          1. First review the area to be irrigated and then make a drawing of the garden or site with your preferred layout.

                                                          2. To automate the system, install one of DIG's hose end timers (not included) after the backflow device.

                                                          3. In the installation stage, to the faucet, first connect the backflow device, then the pressure regulator and then the 3/4" swivel adapter with the 60 mesh screen. If water quality is a concern, we highly recommend using a fine mesh 3/4" filter with 155 mesh (model D57A), not included with this kit.

                                                          4. Lay out the 1/2" drip tubing per your drawing and along each planter.

                                                          5. Near the corner of each planter cut the 1/2” drip tubing and connect a 1/2" tee. To the tee, connect an additional length of 1/2" drip tubing and raise the drip tubing to the top of the planter. To install the 1/2" compression fittings, cut the drip tubing with a hand pruner, being careful to keep dirt from entering the line. Hold the compression fitting in one hand and the drip tubing in the other and force the drip tubing into the fitting by wiggling it from side to side. Make sure that the drip tubing is pushed into the compression fitting for about 1/2" to 5/8" for a very tight fit. No glue or clamps are required.

                                                          6. To the end of the drip tubing, connect a 1/2" elbow and to the 1/2" elbow, connect a short length of 1/2" drip tubing. Lay out the 1/2” drip tubing perpendicular to the planter’s rows and to end of the planter. This is the main water supply line for each planter.

3/4" FHT x MHT pressure regulator: downstream pressure preset to 25 PSI

                                                          7. Near each row, punch a hole into the side of the 1/2" drip tubing and insert a 1/4" barb.

                                                          8. To the 1/4” barb, connect the 1/4” drip line with drip emitters every 9” and lay out the 1/4" drip line beside the plant rows a few inches past the last plant in each row to compensate for temperature changes that may affect the length of the drip tubing. Do not extend the drip line beyond the recommended layout of 28' in length

                                                          9. Secure the 1/4” drip line, using the 1/4" stakes included.

                                                          10. Turn the faucet on and flush the line for a few minutes to clean all debris that may be trapped inside the drip tubing or the drip line. Then shut off the faucet and close the end of the 1/2” drip tubing using the 1/2” hose end and the 1/4” plugs included with the kit.

                                                          11. Pressurize the system again and make sure that the system is working correctly and no leak appears.

Note: To expand the kit we highly recommend continuing with the same model drip line. Review the instruction manual included with the kit for complete details.

Using drip irrigation, water first thing in the morning before the temperature begins to rise. This will allow excess moisture on the leaves and top soil to dry before fungal and other diseases can develop. The most common cause of early plant death is over watering. Using drip irrigation can help sustain healthy plants by applying water directly to the plant root zone when and where it is needed. For established plantings, deep, infrequent watering is recommended. In most cases deep watering will encourage deeper rooting, which leads to stronger, healthier plants.

About the soil and suggested drip emitter spacing:

Sandy soil or light textured soil: Water percolates straight through before it can spread far enough horizontally, so use the drip emitters in close spacing of 10" to 12" apart. Apply water at close intervals such as every other day for 20 to 90 minutes depending on plant size and type, daylight conditions (full sun, partial sun or shaded) and weather pattern (cold to hot) with the plants under full sun in hot conditions getting the longer period.

Loamy soil or medium textured soil: This is the ideal soil condition with water moving slowly and spreading evenly, so use the drip emitters spaced 16" to 18" apart. Apply water at wider intervals such as every two to four days for 15 to 90 minutes depending on plant size, type, daylight conditions (full sun, partial sun or shaded) and weather pattern (cold to hot) with the plants under full sun in hot conditions getting the longer period.

Clay soil or heavy textured soil: Water is absorbed very slowly, so install the drip emitters at a spacing of 18" to 24" apart. Apply water at longer intervals such as every three to five days for 30 minutes to 60 minutes depending on flow rate, plant size and type, daylight conditions (full sun, partial sun or shaded) and weather pattern (cold to hot) with the plants under full sun in hot condition getting the longer period.
